ROSEMONT, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Field Hockey team received five first-team honors and three major awards from the Colonial States Athletic Conference on Thursday morning.

Junior defender Alexx Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg Area) was selected as the Defensive Player of the Year. Miller, a first-team selection at defender, is the first player from Cedar Crest to receive this honor. She helped lead a defensive unit that allowed just 1.60 goals per game on average and netted three shutout wins. Miller was an honorable mention selection last season and a second-team selection in 2016.

Freshman midfielder Serena Shuler (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) was named as the Rookie of the Year. She is the fourth Falcon to receive this award (Jessica Carter, 1999; McKenna Hunt, 2016; Annalise Unger (Burlington, Ver./Rice Memorial ), 2017). In 15 games this season, Shuler has two goals and four assists for a total of eight points. She had a game-winning goal in a 4-0 win over Wells.

Head Coach Amber Auchenbach was selected as Coach of the Year by her peers. She is the second coach from Cedar Crest in a row to receive this honor (Kellina Yarrish, 2017) and the third coach from Cedar Crest to win the honor, joining Yarrish and Marci Lippert (2009). She led the Falcons to the third seed in the upcoming playoffs, as the Falcons won six games and went 4-4 in the conference, all in her first year as coach at Cedar Crest.

Receiving spots on the First-Team All-Conference are both Miller and Shuler, along with junior defender Madison Bowen ( Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area Senior), the 2017 CSAC Rookie of the Year, Annalise Unger (Burlington, Ver./Rice Memorial ), and junior goalkeeper Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, N.H./Hollis Brookline). Sophomore Mercedes Melo (Lehighton, Pa./Palmerton Area) took home honor making the All-Sportsmanship Team.
