Annville, PA - The Cedar Crest College field hockey team dropped its season opener, 7-0, to the JV squad at Lebanon Valley College on Wednesday night.
Cedar Crest struggled offensively, mustering only three shots to Lebanon's 20. The Dutchmen went into the break up 5-0, including two goals and an assist by LVC's Cate Cusack. The Falcons, looking for their groove under new head coach Cindy Joseph, picked things up defensively in the second half and held Lebanon Valley to just two goals, largely on the strength of substitute goalkeeper Falynn Strohl's (Allentown, PA/Wm Allen) six saves. Cusack finished with three goals and an assist.
Cedar Crest drops to 0-1 overall on the season, while Lebanon Valley's JV team starts the season at 1-0.
The Falcons will open at home against Goucher on Saturday, September 4, at 1:00 p.m. in non-league action.
