Cedar Crest Field Hockey Drops Non-League Contest to Moravian, 6-1

9/13/2010 12:00:00 AM

Allentown, PA - Against Lehigh Valley rival Moravian College, Cedar Crest's field hockey team continued to improve in small steps but still seems to struggle to put together a full two halves of play.

When Moravian's Becky Renaldo scored first on a penalty corner just over five minutes into the game, the Greyhounds were answered just :47 later by Cedar Crest sophomore Lauren Salge (Robbinsville, NJ/Allentown) from a Tammy Gruzdis (Allentown, PA/Liberty) feed. The Falcons kept it tight over the next 15 minutes, until Renaldo netted a goal unassisted to make the score a respectable 2-1 going into the break.

But the Falcons came up short in the second half as Moravian netted four more to put the game out of reach. Renaldo finished the game with three. The 'Hounds outshot the Falcons 28-7 and enjoyed a 17-5 advantage in penalty corners. Cedar Crest sophomore Lindsay Harrison (Hanover, PA/Littlestown) had 12 saves in 70:00 in goal.

Cedar Crest is now 1-5 overall on the season. Moravian improves to 3-1.

The Falcons will travel to non-league Wilson for a game on Wednesday, September 15, at 4:00 p.m.
