Allentown, PA - Saturday was Senior Day, the last home game of the season for Cedar Crest seniors Heather Rice (Thurmont, MD/Catoctin), Kaili Quinn (Dedham, ME/John Bapst Memorial), Kara Malysza (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca East), Tara Fikes (Boothwyn, PA/Chichester), and Falynn Strohl (Allentown, PA/William Allen). Unfortunately, visiting Neumann University put a damper on the festivities by handing the Falcons a 5-1 loss.
The Knights' Ashley Verbonitz had a hat trick on the day, the first goal coming just 1:19 into the game. Midway through the first half Erica Crabtree had a goal and Verbonitz had her second to go up 3-0 before Rice put the Falcons on the board just before the half with a feed from junior Jessica Millar (Dover, DE/Polytech). Strohl got the start in goal and had 12 saves in the first half.
Neumann netted two more early in the second half to take the 5-1 lead before the scoring would end for the day. Neumann held the edge in shots and penalty corners, while Strohl and second-half goalie Lindsay Harrison (Hanover, PA/Littlestown) combined for 20 saves.
Cedar Crest is now 1-14 overall and falls to 1-6 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while Neumann improves to 6-11 and 4-3 in the Landmark Conference. Next up, the Falcons travel to Wells College for a non-conference game on Sunday, October 23rd, at 1:00 PM.
