Oh-So-Close Falcons in 3-2 Loss to Immaculata

10/22/2011 1:41:00 PM

Allentown, PA – Proving how far they've come over the season, Cedar Crest let Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Immaculata squeak by with a 3-2 victory on Saturday.

The Mighty Macs scored in the seventh minute, but the Falcons would hold them from that point on until halftime. Early in the second half, Cedar Crest evened the score when a free kick by Jennie Huber (Palmerton, PA/Pleasant Valley) ricocheted off the crossbar and was deflected by Daniella Mendez (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair Kimberly Academy) then popped in by Samantha Huey (Nutley, NJ/Nutley). Unfortunately, the Falcons shot themselves in the foot  just minutes later when an Immaculata corner kick careened off a defender into the goal for an own goal to put the Macs up 2-1. Huber gave Cedar Crest new life in the 67th minute when she scored a beauty unassisted off a free kick. Immaculata then took the lead for good with alittle over 21:00 to go with a header by Amanda Markie from out of a crowd in front of the goal on a corner kick.

The Falcons were outshot by a factor of three, but a masterful game by freshman keeper Krysten Gillan (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) with 21 saves kept things tight.

The Falcons drop to 1-11-2 overall and 0-7-1 in the CSAC, while Immaculata improves to 6-7-2, 5-4-2 in the CSAC. Next up, on Sunday, October 23rd, Cedar Crest will try for a CSAC win at Notre Dame of Maryland University at 1:00 PM.
