Allentown, PA – While Sunday's shutout loss to Notre Dame could be considered a step backwards for the young Cedar Crest soccer team, Tuesday's gutsy performance against Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Baptist Bible College definitely seemed like a step forward, even though it didn't result in a "W."

The Falcons came to play, scoring first in the seventh minute on a Jennie Huber (Palmerton, PA/Pleasant Valley) penalty kick, then taking a 2-0 lead late in the first half when freshman Kim Barry (Greentown, PA/Wallenpaupack Area) connected from far out on a Denyell Spingola (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) pass. The 2-0 score at the break was just the second halftime lead Cedar Crest has enjoyed this season.

But Baptist Bible made some halftime adjustments, including substituting keeper Katelyn King for Cierra Bryon, and there was likely some motivational coachspeak as well, as the Defenders upped the intensity level in the second period. First, just over five minutes in, Kristen Slagle found the back of the net, then with just over 15 minutes to go a header by Erin Law would tie the score at 2 apiece. The Falcons lost their early mojo and were stymied on the offensive end in the second half.

Then in the unkindest cut of all, with under ten to go, a deflected kick out of a crowd in front of Cedar Crest's goal got past freshman Krysten Gillan (Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) for a game-winning own goal.

Baptist Bible outshot the Falcons 7-0 in the second half and held a 9-3 edge in corner kicks for the game. Gillan finished with 10 saves.

With the loss, the Falcons drop to 1-13-2 overall and 0-9-1 in the CSAC, while Baptist Bible improves to 9-8-1 and 6-4-1 in the CSAC. Cedar Crest will close out their season at home on Saturday, October 29th, with a CSAC game against Centenary College at 1:00 PM.
