Reading, PA – While Cedar Crest has played well recently, well enough in fact to notch a win and a tie last week, the Falcons took a bit of a step backwards on Tuesday in a non-conference loss at Penn State Berks.
The Nittany Lions scored first, a Sam Raimondo goal off a corner in the 17th minute. Teammates Alexa Shumate and Chelsea Ray followed up with a goal each, still in the first half, leading to a 3-0 halftime score. Cedar Crest's halftime adjustments kept the Lions off the board in the second half, but didn't improve their own scoring ability. In contrast to their weekend tie at Rosemont, when the Falcons took many shots but struggled to score, against Penn State they struggled to find shot opportunities and were outshot by a wide margin. Cedar Crest senior Jennie Huber (Palmerton, PA, Pleasant Valley) had Cedar Crest's only shots of the game. Freshman goalie Krysten Gillan (Maple Shade, NJ, Maple Shade) had 12 saves in the loss.
Cedar Crest drops to 1-6-2 and 0-3-1 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. Penn State Berks improves to 6-4-1. The Falcons will again try for their first CSAC win with a game at Philadelphia Biblical University on Thursday, October 6th, at 3:30 PM.
