Gwynedd-Mercy Relentless in Field Hockey Win

10/8/2011 5:44:00 PM

Allentown, PA - A tough game was probably to be expected when Gwynedd-Mercy College came to town on Saturday, but last year's Colonial States Athletic Conference runners-up convincingly showed why they are also undefeated in the Conference so far this season.

The Griffins' offensive firepower was evident from the start as they scored off a penalty corner just over two minutes into the game, a Maria Karidas goal that was the first of her hat trick for the day. Nine Gwynedd-Mercy players scored en route to the 16-1 win, led by Casey Dellostretto who had four goals. The Griffins led 8-0 at the half, scored eight more in the second half, and continued scoring right up until there was less than 3:00 to play.

Cedar Crest goalkeeper Lindsay Harrison (Hanover, PA, Littlestown) had a busy afternoon with 29 saves in 70:00 in goal. Junior Becca Lowe (Richmond, VA, James River) had Cedar Crest's only goal, a nice shot up the middle off a penalty corner 15:00 into the second half.

Cedar Crest is now 1-10 overall and 1-3 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference, while Gwynedd-Mercy improves to 9-3 and remains undefeated in the conference at 5-0. Things will not get easier for the Falcons as they next travel to defending CSAC champion Cabrini College on Thursday, October 13th, at 6:30 PM.
