Griffins Down Cedar Crest in Conference Action

9/21/2011 8:32:00 PM

Gwynedd Valley, PA – On the road at Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Gwynedd-Mercy College, Cedar Crest suffered a 3-0 loss on Wednesday. This was, however, a marked improvement over the 9-0 drubbing the Falcons received at the hands of the Griffins last year, showing that Coach Pietrobon seems to have her program headed in the right direction.

After allowing a goal by Gwen Conte within the first ten minutes of the game, the Falcons stiffened their resolve and prevented Gwynedd from finding the back of the net for the rest of the first half. Entering the break down just 1-0 to the Griffins was an accomplishment in its own right for the young Falcon squad, one that continued on for the first 15 minutes of the second half as well. But Conte scored a second goal in the 58th minute, followed by a third and final goal my Megahn Bojanowski in the last 20 minutes that put the game out of reach.

Cedar Crest goalie Krysten Gillan (Maple Shade, NJ, Maple Shade) had eight saves in the game, but four Falcon players could only manage one shot each for a total of four on the other end.

Cedar Crest drops to 0-4-1 overall and 0-2 in the CSAC, while the Griffins get their first win of the season and are 1-6-1 and 1-1 in the conference.

Next the Falcons will travel to Baltimore for a CSAC game against Notre Dame on Saturday, September 24th, at 3:30 PM.
