Allentown, PA - For a long while Cedar Crest looked pretty good today in a spirited home game against the 3-4 DeSales Bulldogs of the Middle Atlantic Conference.
The Falcons actually scored first on a Kara Malysza (West Seneca, NY, West Seneca East) goal off a Brittany Hartman (Myerstown, PA, ELCO) assist just 5:34 in to take their first lead of the season. But DeSales evened the score at one apiece ten minutes later on a goal by Alison Malatesta with an assist by Amber Collins. From that point on the two squads went toe-to-toe, with Cedar Crest's eight shots nearly matching the Bulldogs' total of eight for the half.
The second half was a different story however, as some halftime adjustments by DeSales not only resulted in two quick goals in the 41st and 43rd minutes, but inspired the Bulldogs to outshoot the Falcons 15-0 in the second half. A final goal on a penalty stroke with :04 remaining was just icing on the cake for the visitors.
Junior goalie Lindsay Harrison (Hanover, PA, Littlestown) had nine saves in a complete game. Lauren Salge (Robbinsville, NJ, Allentown) and Malysza had two shots each in the loss.
Cedar Crest drops to 0-4 overall on the season, and the Falcons will open conference play at Keystone College on Saturday, September 24th, at noon.
