Falcons Out-Paced by Marywood

9/27/2011 9:51:00 PM

Allentown, PA – At home on Tuesday, Coach Pietrobon had to have liked what she saw as the first half wound down against Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Marywood University.

After a scoreless first fifteen minutes, the Pacers had scored twice in the middle of the first period, but the 2-0 deficit was cut in half in the 33rd minute by a goal from senior Jennie Huber (Palmerton, PA, Pleasant Valley). With less than five minutes to go until halftime, the prospect of a 2-1 score against a strong team like Marywood must have had some appeal.

Fortunes can turn on a dime however, and suddenly in a span of just 2:13, the Falcons found themselves facing a 5-1 halftime score. Three goals by Marywood just before the break, including two by Erin Jones who recorded a hat trick for the half, sent the Falcons reeling and put the game out of reach.

The Pacers would add three more in the second half en route to the eventual 8-2 victory, including offsetting own goals, one by each team, when shots were accidentally redirected into the goal by defenders.

Cedar Crest goalie Krysten Gillan (Maple Shade, NJ, Maple Shade) had a game-high 15 saves in a complete game, but the Falcons were outshot by a wide margin.

Cedar Crest still seeks their first win at 0-5-1 overall and 0-3 in the CSAC, while the Griffins get their first win of the season and are 3-6 and 2-1 in the confererence..

Next up the Falcons will attempt to regroup with a non-conference game at home against Valley Forge Christian College on Thursday, September 29th, at 4:00 PM.
