Allentown, PA – Soccer fans got to see some glimpses of the future today as the young Cedar Crest team displayed solid skills and plenty of heart in several stretches of a game against the visting Hood College Blazers. Unfortunately, the Falcons couldn't convert those to goals and wound up on the short end of a 3-0 loss.
Cedar Crest displayed plenty of offensive effort in the opening minutes and in fact very nearly drew first blood with a Jennie Huber (Palmerton, PA, Pleasant Valley) shot on goal that caromed off the cross bar in the first two minutes of the game. Hood began to settle in however, and the game became much more of a back and forth battle. The Blazers finally found the back of the net after nearly 15 minutes, then scored again to take a 2-0 lead into the break.
Goalie Krysten Gillan (Maple Shade, NJ, Maple Shade) had 11 saves on the day to keep things close, but the Falcons could only manage six shots to Hood's 20.
Cedar Crest is now 0-2 on the season and has yet to open conference play. The Blazers are now 1-0 and 0-0 in the MAC.
Next up, the Falcons will play host to Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday, September 7th, at 4:00 p.m.
