Box Score
Allentown, PA - Returning home from sunny Florida to begin the second half of the season, Cedar Crest lost at home on Thursday against non-conference opponent Eastern University. The final score was 95-68, although the game seemed much closer than the score indicates.
In the first half, the Eagles scored early and often and ran their lead into double digits on multiple occasions, but the Falcons continued to make runs and cut the margin several times to as few as four points. The Eagles shot 51.3%, the Falcons 50.0%. From beyond the arc, it was 53.8% to 50%. On the glass, it was 18 rebounds to 17. But despite the almost dead heat statistically, Cedar Crest somehow found themselves on the short end of a 54-37 halftime score.
It wasn't until the second half that the deeper Eastern team (they played 14 players) seemed to wear down the undermanned Falcons. Cedar Crest's shooting percentage dropped a bit, especially on the perimeter, where tired legs resulted in just one for 10 from outside the arc. The Eagles gradually pulled away to their ultimate 27 point margin of victory.
Senior Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) led the Falcons in scoring with 30 and had 11 boards for a nice double double. Sophomore Amber Wehry (Klingerstown, PA/Tri-Valley Jr/Sr) also had a double double, scoring 15 points and leading all rebounders with 12 boards. Junior Megan DeMutis (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic) had 10 points.
Eastern's Meghan Nowak was outstanding, leading all players with 34 points on 14 of 18 shooting
Cedar Crest begins the second half of their season 1-9 (0-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference), and Eastern improves to 8-2 and 2-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. The Falcons will play at CSAC rival Keystone College on Saturday, January 7th, at 1:00 PM.
