Cyclones Too Much for Falcons

Box Score

Allentown, PA - The shorthanded Falcons suffered yet another loss at the hands of a deeper opponent, as Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Centenary College used 12 players in a 77-56 win.

Cold shooting by Cedar Crest to open the game alowed the Cyclones to jump out to an 8-0 before freshman Denyell Spingola (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) finally put the Falcons on the board. The teams traded baskets in a back and forth first half, and though Cedar Crest got as close as three points on several occasions, they could not get over the hump. As halftime approached, Centenary slowly built up an 11 point lead at 40-29.

Although junior Megan DeMutis (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic) hit a three-pointer to open the second half, it was offset by an 11-2 Centenary run which put the Cyclones up by 17. Cedar Crest answered with a 7-0 run of their own which got the Falcons within 10, but that would be the closest margin they could manage in the second half. Over-agressive defense soon put Cedar Crest in foul trouble and hampered their ability to blunt the Cyclones' attack. Four Falcons finished with four fouls each, a significant problem for a roster that currently stands at seven healthy players. Centenary subbed liberally and built their lead to the 77-56 final.

Junior Megan DeMutis (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic) led all scorers with 15 points including 3-6 from beyond the arc. Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) had seven rebounds.

Centenary's Andrea Innis had 14 points and eight boards to lead the Cyclones in both categories.

Cedar Crest is now 1-11 on the season and 0-7 in the CSAC. Centenary is 9-4 and 3-2 in the conference.  The Falcons will host non-conference Bryn Mawr College on Thursday, January 12th, at 6:00 PM.
