Allentown, PA - The Nittany Lions of Penn State Berks visited Cedar Crest on Thursday and thoroughly dominated the Falcons on the offensive end of the field in an 8-1 victory.
The Lions' time of possession favored them by a large margin. When Sara Conover scored just 2:10 into the game, it was a sure sign that Cedar Crest was going to be in for a challenge. Penn State added two more goals within the opening 15:00 of the game to take a 3-0 lead, while Cedar Crest didn't get their first shot on goal until the 31st minute. By halftime, the Lions led 5-0.
In the second half, Penn State would score another goal before Cedar Crest's
Mattie Hallquist (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) scored on a direct kick at 69:07 to break the shutout. The Lions weren't finished - they added two more, including one from Steph Tankalavage who had a hat trick. Sara Conover had a goal and four assists.
The Lions had 26 shots on goal to the Falcons four, but
Daniella Mendez (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair Kimberly Academy) came up big with 18 saves in the game.
Following the loss, Cedar Crest is now 5-9-1 overall and 2-3 in the CSAC. Penn State Berks improves to 11-2, and they are undefeated in the NEAC at 9-0. The Falcons will host Rosemont College in CSAC action on Saturday, October 13th, at 12:00 PM.
