Season Stats

Allentown, PA - Cedar Crest traveled north to Scranton on Wednesday to meet Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Marywood University. At stake was the slim possibility of grabbing a berth in the four-team CSAC field hockey championship tournament, but that prospect evaporated with a 3-2 loss in overtime.

It's perhaps no surprise that the game went to overtime, as the two teams were so similar. Both entered the game in similar situations; Cedar Crest was 6-9 on the season and 2-3 in the CSAC, and Marywood was 3-8 overall and 3-2 in the CSAC. During the game, the teams were statistical mirror images of each other: both teams took 14 shots in regulation, and both goalies had a total of eight saves.

The Falcons allowed goals by Kathryn Morin and Sarah Hindman in the first 20 minutes before they stiffened their resolve and allowed just one shot the rest of the first half. Also perking up offensively, Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) scored in the 28th minute to cut the lead to 2-1 at the half.

Rodenberger then tied it up midway through the second half with a goal on a feed from Jessica Sanbeg (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley). Both teams had multiple chances to break the deadlock over the remaining minutes but were unable to do so, so it was off to overtime.

Unfortunately. the Pacers controlled the overtime and scored the sudden victory in the sixth minute of the period. Marywood got off five shots and had a penalty corner in the overtime, while Cedar Crest spent the period on the defensive end. Lindsay Harrison (Hanover, PA/Littlestown) had three saves in the overtime alone, but Kathryn Morin was able to get one by for the win.

With just two games remaining, Cedar Crest drops to 6-10 overall and 2-4 in the CSAC. Marywood improves to 4-8 and is 4-2 in the CSAC. Saturday, October 20th, is Senior Day and the Falcons' final home game, against Keystone College. Game time is 12:00 PM.
