Allentown, PA - On Senior Day Saturday, Cedar Crest faced powerful Colonial States Athletic Conference foe Keystone College, who until earlier in the week had been undefeated in the CSAC. Although they came away with a narrow 5-3 loss, the Falcons had to be happy with their play.
Prior to the game, seniors Leia Epstein (Plymouth Meeting, PA/Plymouth-Whitemarsh), Lindsay Harrison (Hanover, PA/Littlestown), Jessica Millar (Dover, DE/Polytech), Becca Lowe (Richmond, VA/James River), and Lauren Salge (Robbinsville, NJ/Allentown) were recognized for their careers at Cedar Crest, and the Falcon adrenalin surge seemed to carry over into the game.
Although Keystone's Hope Krolewski scored almost immediately after the game began, Cedar Crest kept their poise. Erin Studer (Kent, CT/Housatonic Valley Regional) scored in the sixth minute on a Wendy Martin (Mt. Pleasant Hills, PA/Midd-West) feed to tie it up, then Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) scored in the twentieth with an assist from Jessica Sanbeg (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) to take the lead.
When the Giants' Brittany Cardona evened the score before the half, Falcon senior Lauren Salge (Robbinsville, NJ/Allentown) put one in the cage unassisted within 20 seconds to retake the lead.
Unfortunately, such parity didn't last through the entire game. After the break, and a goalie change by Keystone, Cedar Crest began to struggle. Although both teams had 13 shots in the first half, the Giants outshot the Falcons 10-1 in the second.
A second goal by Cardona at 50:44 tied things back up, then a goal by Christiana Nevers and a second by Krolewski led to the 5-3 final.
Senior Lindsay Harrison (Hanover, PA/Littlestown) had 12 saves in the loss.
Cedar Crest is now 6-11 overall and drops to 2-5 in the CSAC. Playoff-bound Keystone improves to 8-8 and 6-1 in the conference. The Falcons will play their final game of the season at home on Thursday, October 25th, against Moravian College at 4:00 PM.
