Allentown, PA - A seemingly endless stream of Cavaliers, actually 28 in all, overwhelmed Cedar Crest's much smaller roster, leading to a 7-3 Cabrinin win in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Tuesday.
Even with 10 first-half saves by senior goalie Lindsay Harrison (Hanover, PA/Littlestown), with fresh legs always at the ready the Cavs scored quickly and often, thanks to two goals from Lindsey Atzert and another two from Kerry Anne Farrell that were just 1:07 apart. Cabrini's Karlie Gruccio added another to give the Cavaliers a 5-0 halftime edge.
Taking advantage of the break to shore up their defense and focus on their communication skills, the Falcons played a much better second half, cutting the Cavs shot total in half. Although Atzert added a third goal early in the second half, this time Cedar Crest answered with a Jess Sanbeg goal from Brittany Hartman (Myerstown, PA/Eastern Lebanon County) to break the goose egg. When Farrell added her third, Sanbeg scored unassisted, and Wendy Martin (Mt. Pleasant Hills, PA/Midd-West) added one for good measure late in the second period.
Cabrini had 22 shots on goal to Cedar Crest's 11, and Harrison ended the day with 15 saves in a full game.
With the loss, Cedar Crest drops to 5-8 overall and 1-3 in the CSAC, while Cabrini improves to . The Griffins improve to 6-6 and reamin a perfect 4-0 in the conference. The Falcons will next host CSAC opponent Notre Dame of Maryland University on Saturday, October 13th, at 1:00 PM.
