Box Score
Allentown, PA - At home on Wednesday, Cedar Crest had a bit of a letdown in a game against Colonial States Athletic Conference rival Marywood University. The Falcons looked to avenge an 85-41 loss in December in which senior Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) left early with an injury, but found themselves instead on the short end of a 78-52 loss.
Both squads started off slowly. After nearly 7:00 of play, the score was only 11-9 in the Pacers' favor. But a three-pointer at that point by Marielle Thorsen ignited a 24-9 run over the rest of the first half that resulted in a 38-18 halftime score. The run featured a second three-pointer by Thorsen and three more by Marywood's Ashley Murray, and was fueled by Cedar Crest's turnovers: they had 16 for the half, 10 of which were steals. The Falcons shot just 28% for the half and were outrebounded 28-17.
Although Marywood opened the second half with a quick 10 unanswered points, Cedar Crest was at least able to keep pace as the Pacers went deeper into their bench, but was never able to overcome the margin the Pacers built up in the opening half. The Falcons even won the war on the glass in the second half, 25 rebounds to 17.
After scoring just four points in the first half, senior Lizzy Sunderhaus (Hamilton, OH/Stephen T. Badin) finished with 21 points and 18 rebounds. Sophomore Amber Wehry (Klingerstown, PA/Tri-Valley Jr/Sr) had 13 points, and junior Megan DeMutis (Norristown, PA/Kennedy-Kenrick Catholic) had 10.
Marywood's Ashley Murray led all scorers with 28 points, including 8-for-11 from three-point land. As a team, the Pacers were 11-for-18 from outside.
Cedar Crest is now 6-17 on the season and 3-11 in the CSAC. Marywood is 16-6 and 11-2 in the conference. The Falcons will host Notre Dame of Maryland University on Senior Day, Saturday February 11th, at 1:00 PM.
