Allentown, PA - On a beautiful day for the first day of fall and riding a four-game winning streak into the Colonial States Athletic Conference game at Immaculata University, Cedar Crest should have had every reason to be optimistic. But without the services of leading scorer
Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) the Falcons struggled to generate offense and fell 4-0 to the Macs.
Cedar Crest got off to a slow start and seemed to struggle to figure out who would pick up the slack, although sophomore
Olga Cauble (Concord, NH/Concord) played a very agressive game off the bench as a substitute forward. But the Falcon's inability to retain possession of the ball and a porous defense led to three quick first-half goals from the Macs.
The second half saw a better showing as Cedar Crest started to get into a rhythm, although a sluggish start to the period saw the Macs get another goal early in the half. After that the squad settled down and played with a bit more confidence, although with just two shots on goal they couldn't mount an effective enough attack to score goals and get back in the game.
Senior keeper
Daniella Mendez (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair Kimberly Academy) played a key role, not just with five saves but in motivating the Falcons to play to their potential.
Cedar Crest is now 4-5 on the season and 1-1 in the conference. Immaculata improves to 1-6 and opens 1-0 in the CSAC. Next up the Falcons will travel north for a CSAC game at Baptist Bible College on Tuesday, September 25th, at 4:00 PM.
