Morristown, NJ – On the road against non-conference opponent the College of St. Elizabeth, the Eagles and the Falcons battled to a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes of play.
Although Cedar Crest dominated the first half of the game offensively and got quite a few good looks at the goal, only sophomore Mattie Hallquist (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua)'s shot in the 17th minute found the back of the net for the Falcons' first and only goal. Cedar Crest had five shots in the first half and a total of eight in regulation.
The second half was a much more back-and-forth affair, although St. Elizabeth was able to notch their only goal and tie things up early in the period. The Eagles fired off an amazing 15 second-half shots but fortunately for the Falcons senior keeper Daniella Mendez (Cedar Grove, NJ/Montclair Kimberly Academy) had a monster game with 12 saves in regulation and 14 for the game.
Both teams had their opportunities in the extra minutes. Senior Tia Schober (Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Regional) had two open shots that were wide in the first overtime, and Hallquist, Kim Barry (Greentown, PA/Wallenpaupack Area), and Denyell Spingola (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray) had shots in the second that were blocked or saved. Both teams had five overtime shots and two overtime saves. With neither team able to produce the ender, they eventually had to settle for the unsatisfying 1-1 tie.
With the tie, the Falcons are now 4-6-1 overall and 1-2 in the CSAC, and the Eagles are 3-5-1. On Wednesday, October 10th, Cedar Crest will travel to Aston to face Neumann University in the first of a string of three CSAC games. Game time is 7:00 PM.
