The Cedar Crest Field Hockey team played CSAC rival Gwynedd-Mercy College Griffins on a cool, autumn day. With fans in the stands, the Falcons put up a well fought match in the first half of game play, but couldn't keep the Griffins at bay. The Griffins would take the win over the Falcons 0-11.
During the first half of game play, fans saw excellent team work and communication from the Falcons. The Griffins would take the lead by ending the first half 0- 6. After the half time break, the Falcons came out with a renewed sense of urgency and had the ball in the offensive circle a few times. Sophomore Jessica Sanbeg (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) would have 3 shots on goal and sophomore Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) would have 2 shots.
The Falcons put a lot of focus into their defensive end. The Griffins peppered sophomore Goalkeeper Kaitlin Bredlinger with many shots. Bredlinger had 26 saves by the game's end. Freshman Selena Contreras (Catasauqua, PA/Catasauqua) and senior Jen Harbison (Phillipsburg, NJ/Phillipsburg) each had 2 defensive saves while Viviana Samite had 1 defensive save.
Cedar Crest falls 0-4 in the conference, 0-14 overall while Gwynedd-Mercy improves 7-7. Up next, the Falcons will travel to Elmira, NY for their non-conference match up against the Elmira College Soaring Eagles on Monday, October 21 at 4:00pm.
