The colorful changing leaves of Elmira, NY were the battleground for the Cedar Crest Field Hockey team as they fought the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College. Even with having a plan of attack against the Empire Eight college, the Falcons were not able to overcome the Soaring Eagles with a 2-14 loss to Elmira College.
Elmira College would take a fast lead by scoring nine goals on the Falcons in the first 20 minutes of play. Cedar Crest gained an offensive penalty corner in which sophomore Viviana Samite scored for the Falcons, assisted by Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen), in the 20th minute of the game. The goal that put Cedar Crest on the board is Samite's first goal of the season. The first half would end 1-12 in favor of the Soaring Eagles.
In the second half, the Soaring Eagles would score one more goal when the Falcons answered back. Senior Erin Studer (Kent, CT/Housatonic Valley Regional) received a cross pass from Jessica Sanbeg (Effort, PA/Pleasant Valley) at the post and scored in the 45th minute of the game.
Goaltender Kaitlyn Bredlinger had 26 saves after being peppered with shots, out-saving the Elmira goaltenders by 23 shots. The Falcons totaled 8 shots with 5 of them on goal by game's end.
The Falcons drop 0-15 overall, but remain 0-4 in the conference while the Soaring Eagles improve 4-9 overall. Up next, the Falcons will travel to Scranton, PA to battle the Giants of Keystone College at the Riverfront Sports Complex on October 24th. Game time is 4:00pm.
