Lewis Nets 3rd Goal of Season, Falcons Drop Close Game

Allentown, PA- The Cedar Crest Soccer team fell in a nail-biting battle as they came up against Gwynedd Mercy for their "Think- Pink" Senior Day Game.

After a very emotional, Senior Day presentation; the Falcons came onto the pitch energetic and looking great as they pressed the Griffins defense on numerous occasions. Junior forward, Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) created many opportunities for the Falcons to strike first. Unfortunately, a defensive mistake would lead to a Griffin goal in the 22nd minute, as the opposing attacker slipped by the defense to neatly place a ball past Freshman Goalkeeper, Nalani Velasquez (Howell, NJ/Howell). The half would continue to be a battle for both teams as the ball pinged from one end of the field to the next, with no true goal scoring opportunities.

The second half would start much like the first, with another Falcon mistake which lead to a 2nd Griffin goal in the 55th minute. The Falcons would pick their heads up, seeking a catch-up goal and would create many opportunities to do so. Junior Midfielder, Breonna Lewis (Abingdon, MD/Sovereign Grace Homeschool), would have an answer for the Falcons as she tallied her third goal of the season in the 70th minute from a cross off of the boot of Junior Forward, Denyell Spingola (East Haddam, CT/Nathan Hale-Ray). The single goal wouldn't be enough for the Falcons to overcome the Griffins as the game would end 2-1 in regulation time.

With the loss, the Falcons fall to an overall record of 2-9-1 and 0-4 in CSAC play. The Falcons will travel to Scranton, PA on Tuesday October 7th      to take on Marywood University at 4pm.
