Allentown, Pa – On the final day of the Cedar Crest Soccer Classic, the Falcons fall in another double overtime game to the City College of New York Beavers 3-2.
The Falcons would start the game strong, as Freshman midfielder Caitlyn Mann (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) tallied her first goal of her college career in the 5thminute, from a neatly passed ball from Captain Kim Barry (Greentown, PA/Wallenpaupack Area). Seemingly becoming tired toward the middle of the half, the Falcons would allow the Beavers to equalize in the 23rd minute off of a Beaver cross from their left flank. With both teams beginning to tire toward the end of the half, no real goal scoring opportunities would present themselves before the half.
The second half would be a battle as both teams fought hard up and down the field looking for the goal to take them ahead. The Beavers would find that goal in the 60th minute, off of another cross from the left flank. The Falcons, were now looking for the equalizer before regulation time, as they played with much more urgency. Sophomore midfielder, Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon) would have the answer for the Falcons as she took a pristine free kick from the left flank that the Beaver defender neatly placed into her own goal. The half would finish at 2-2, causing the game to go into overtime.
In the first half of overtime, the Falcons would constantly create goal scoring opportunities as they dominated the 10 minutes of the first overtime period, but without finding the net the game would go into double overtime. In the first minute of double overtime the Beavers would end the game slotting the ball by Falcon goalkeeper Nalani Velasquez (Howell, NJ/Howell).
With the loss the Falcons now fall to 1-2-1, and will be at home again on Tuesday September 9th at 4:30pm against Wilson College.
