Falcons Claim Win Over Sweet Briar in OT

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College soccer won, 3-2, against non-conference Sweet Briar College in over time fashion Monday afternoon.

"We didn't play our best game today, but it was encouraging that we were able to come away with W," stated Head Coach Sarah Wolcott We put in the work we needed to down the stretch, and got the job done against a really hard working Sweet Briar. I am happy with our overall effort and how gutted out those 97 minutes."

The Falcons had an early lead as freshman Alexandra Zoda (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. /Roy C Ketcham Senior High School) scored her first collegeiate goal in the 14th minute, as ball played in to the six yard line by senior forward Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) as Zoda put a one time finish past the goalkeeper. Cedar Crest persistently pressured Sweet Briar and despite containing most of the game in the attcking third, the Vixen were able to take a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half, a set play taken by junior midfielder Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon) would play a ball into freshman Kassandra Miller (Fallington, Pa./Pensbury Senior High School) for the equalizer, finding the left side of the goal in the 78th minute. Although there was eight shots taken by Cedar Crest, after 90 minutes the score would remain 2-2 forcing overtime.

Long would finish the match finding side netting in the 97th minute. A ball was played in over the top to her feet that aloud her to take one touch to goal forcing the keeper off of her line, with a nice one touch around the keeper she had an open net for the finish condcluding the game, 3-2.

The Falcons next game is on Saturday, October 17 at 1:00 p.m. at Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Rosemont College.
