ALLENTOWN, Pa.--- The Cedar Crest College soccer team fell 3-0 in the final game of the 2015 season against conference opponent Centenary College on Thursday afternoon.
"I was really proud of the heart we showed today," commented Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott. "Centenary is a great, hardworking team, and we kept working with them until the final whistle blew. We've made a lot of progress since I started here, and today is a good measure of that. I was so happy to see such great effort especially from our two seniors, Courtney and Kristen."
The Falcons held the Cyclones to one goal before halftime while freshman goalkeeper
Shelby Szoke (White Haven, Pa./Crestwood High School) collected seven saves. The second half saw six shots by the Black and Yellow, the first freshman
Ashley Heffelfinger. Senior forward
Courtney Long (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) would set the play up, running down the right flank of the field and releasing a cross that met
Heffelfinger inside the six but slightly off centered from the goal with her shot hitting the inside part of the post and bouncing back into play.
Junior midfielder
Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon) and
Long would have back-to-back shots that went just high with in a minute time frame. Sophomore defender
Caitlyn Mann (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) had a shot in the 82
nd minute that the goalkeeper saved.
Long fired the final shot for the Falcons in the 88
th minute that the keeper saved.
