Field Hockey Defeats Bryn Mawr College

Box Score BRYN MAWR, Pa.--- The Cedar Crest College field hockey team won its first match against non-conference Bryn Mawr College with a final score of 2-1.

"I am very excited for the girls,"commented Head Coach Kellina Yarrish. "They have been working very hard to deserve this win. Everything came together for us today fundamentally on the field. I was please with the number of shots on goal, and that we were able to come out on top. It was a very exciting win."

The Falcons outshot the Owls 25-to-4 with senior forward Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) leading the attack by taking 14 shots, six in the first half. Rodenberger's first shot was in the eight minute and hit her second in the 12th minute both were saved by the keeper. Junior midfielder Taylor Osley (Allentown, PA/Louis E. Dieruff High School) took her first shot in the 14th minute which was also saved. Back-to-back shot in the 15th minute by Rodenberger and junior midfielder Samantha VanBeers (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) which resulted in a save and a blocked shot. Junior midfielder Priscilla Howell (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg) tried her luck to get the Falcons on the bored but missed wide. Rodenberger and Osley both got off another shot before Osley found the back of the cage in the 33rd minute with the assist by Rodenberger keeping a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

In the second half the Falcons kept the offensive pressure having five different players with shots. Rodenberger led with seven shots, sophomore Hannah Gouck (Kintnersville, PA/Palisades) got the first shot of the period that was followed up by Rodenberger, both shots resulted in saves for goalkeeper. Howell, junior defender Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood), and freshman Makenzie Perles (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) also all looked to add another score in the game but were deterred. Rodenberger would earn the second goal of the day in the 65th minute to earn Cedar Crest its first win of the year, 2-1.

The field hockey team returns to action in their first home game on Tuesday, September 22 at 4:00 p.m. against non-conference Albright College.
