Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College field hockey team faced non-conference Albright College Tuesday afternoon in their home opener were they fell 5-1.
"The girls came out hard in their first home competition,"stated Head Coach
Kellina Yarrish. "We had some good movement getting the ball up the field and I was please to see how we executed our corners. The defense stepped up big today with crucial defensive saves while Andi making 16 saves."Â
In the first half a strong defensive forced kept the Lions off the board for 20 minutes with two defensive saves by junior defender
Rachel Stump (Fleetwood, PA/Fleetwood).
In the second half, senior forward
Emily Rodenberger (Pennsburg, PA/Upper Perkiomen) was able to get back-to-back shots off as the team was awarded corners taken by junior midfielder
Priscilla Howell (Stewartsville, N.J./Phillipsburg).
Stump and
Contreras added two defensive saves in the second half. Junior midfielder
Samantha VanBeers (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) cut the deficit scoring late in the second half with
Rodenberger on the assist making it 5-1 but that would be the final score.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Andi Dargis (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) made 16 saves on the afternoon.
The Falcons next game is at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 24 at Wilson College.
