Soccer Fall to Hood in Close OT Match

9/5/2015 3:07:00 PM

Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa---- The Cedar Crest College soccer team dropped a close, 2-1,  overtime match to non-conference Hood College on Saturday afternoon.

"I was really happy with how we played today," commented Head Coach Sarah Wolcott. "Hood is a good team, and I thought we worked hard and did a lot of things well. Looking back at last seaseon, we played completely different, in a positive way. We still have some things we need to work on , but we are in a great place at this point. I am excited to move forward and see what we can do at our next game on Monday."

Cedar Crest had eight shots in the first half, but it only took one in the 14th minute to take the lead. Senior defender Kristen Spencer (Bangor, PA/Pen Argyl Area) headed the ball into the net past the keeper off of a corner kick from sophomore midfielder Jackalyn Beckett (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt). The Blazers would go on to tie the game in the 38th minute to take the teams into halftime tied 1-1.

The second half saw a solid defensive effort by the Falcons as they only got one shot off and kept Hood off the scoreboard as well forcing overtime. In overtime with just over two minutes left to the half a Blazer player forced the goalkeeper off of her line to score the winning goal.

Freshman, goalkeeper Shelby Szoke (White Haven, Pa./Crestwood High School), finished the game with a total of 11 saves for the Falcons.

Cedar Crest are set to take the field on Monday, September 7 when they head to the College of St. Elizabeth in Morristown, N.J. for a match slated for a 12:00 p.m. start.
