Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Field Hockey team beat the Notre Dame of Maryland University Gators 7-0 on Saturday afternoon during their annual Think Pink game.
The Falcons started off strong with three shots within the first three minutes of the game. One each from freshman McKenna Hunt (Nazareth, Pa./Pen Argyl), freshman Rachel Bechtel (Temple, Pa./Berks Catholic), and senior Samantha VanBeers (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) respectively. Hunt found the back of the net on her next shot, giving Cedar Crest the lead 1-0. Junior Elizabeth Lamm (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) put one on the board for the Falcons off of a corner, making the score 2-0. Lamm and Alexx Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg Area) shot off of back to back corners, both missing just wide of the goal. In the 31st minute of play, Bechtal shot off of a corner by freshman Madison Bowen ( Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area Senior), but was stopped by the Gators' keeper. However, Bechtal tallied one for the Falcons after scoring off rebounded save, giving Cedar Crest the lead 3-0. Within the last 3 minutes of the half, junior Hannah Gouck (Kintnersville, PA/Palisades) scored, giving the Falcons the lead 4-0, going into halftime.
Within the first three minutes of the second half, both Hunt and freshman Makenzie Kistler (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) fired off three shots total, each saved by the Gators' goalkeeper. Hunt got her second goal of the game after shooting right past the keeper off of a corner, making the Falcons lead 5-0. Cedar Crest freshman Jennie Fritz (Walnutport, Pa./Northern Lehigh) shot in the 56th minute of play, missing just wide of the goal. Lamm got her second goal of the game off of a corner in the 61st minute, bringing the Falcons up 6-0. The seventh and final goal of the game, came from Fritz, assisted by Hunt in the 66th minute. Freshman goalie Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, NH/Hollis Brookline) tallied one save for the Falcons.
The next match for the Falcons will be on October 5 against Hood College in Frederick, Maryland. The start time is set at 4:00 P.M.
