Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa.--- The Cedar Crest College soccer team fell 3-0 as they faced off against Colonial States Athletic Conference opponent Gwynedd Mercy University on early Saturday afternoon.
"I'm really proud of our effort," stated Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott. "We've made tremendous strides this season, and although the score didn't reflect it, I felt like we out possessed them. We made a few mistakes and Gwynedd Mercy capitalized on them, because that is what a good team does. We played well, and I'm happy with our effort."
The visiting team took a 1-0 lead in the 6
th minute of play on a well-timed corner kick and extended the lead to 2-0 in the 25
th minute of play. Sophomore forward
Alexandra Zoda (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. /Roy C Ketcham Senior ) looked to score with two shots late in the half, the first shot missed high while the second shot was saved. Junior midfielder
Tara Irvin (Chalfont, Pa. /Central Bucks) also looked to get the Falcons on the scoreboard releasing a shot right before halftime that was saved.
Cedar Crest came out of the gates with an offensive attack with three quick shots before a corner kick. The first shot by junior forward
Kari Vanderslice (Clementon, NJ/Highland Regional) that was saved, a minute later
Zoda would try her luck again this time the keeper would be there to stop it.
Vanderslice had another attempt in the 49
th minute of play that the keeper scooped up. Senior midfielder
Allison Rittle (Fredericksburg, PA/Northern Lebanon) took the next shot missing just wide. Junior defender
Caitlyn Mann (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) found her way down the left side of the field, into scoring position, but the goalkeeper made the save.
Mann would have the next shot for the team but that too was saved.
The next game for the Falcons is on Wednesday, October 12 at 4:00 p.m. as the team travels for a CSAC match-up against Neumann University.
