Box Score SCRANTON, Pa. - The Cedar Crest College field hockey team was defeated 4-0 by fellow Colonial States Athletic Conference member Marywood University on Saturday afternoon.
Junior
Elizabeth Lamm (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) shot during the 18th minute, but was blocked by a defender. The Falcons held off the Marywood University Pacers until the 27th minute of play. After six saves by freshman goalkeeper
Emma Ryan (Sterling, Va./Park View), the Pacers crossed the ball into the middle and shot just wide of
Ryan, giving them the lead 1-0. The Pacers scored one more time in the 30th minute of play, giving them a lead by two over Cedar Crest going into the second half. Senior
Samantha VanBeers (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) attempted to put one on the board for the Falcons, but her shot was blocked by the Pacers' keeper. Once the ball was back on the Falcons' defensive side, the Pacers shot and freshman
Autumn Wilhide (/Northeastern) had a defensive save.
Ryan tallied a total of eight saves in the first half.
In the second half of play, Marywood scored early off of a scramble in front of the cage, shooting past Falcon goalkeeper
Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, NH/Hollis Brookline). After two shot attempts by the Pacers and two saves by
Reijgers, Marywood scored in the 50th minute, giving them the lead of 4-0.
Ryan had one save and
Reijgers tallied 6 in the second half.
The next match for the Falcons will be at home on Wednesday, September 28 versus non-conference Wilson College. The game is set to begin at 4:00 PM.
