Box Score LA PLUME, Pa.---The Cedar Crest College field hockey team followed up the soccer game on the road at Keystone College in a Colonial States Athletic Conference match-up Wednesday night as the Falcons secured a 1-0 win.
In the first half, the Falcons got nine shots before halftime. The first shot came from freshman midfielder
Annalise Unger (Burlington, VT /Rice Memorial ) who looked to score off a penalty corner, but her shot was saved by the goalie. 12 minutes later,
Unger again ripped a shot off a corner, this one was blocked. Freshman midfielder
Mercedes Melo (Lehighton, Pa./Palmerton Area) took her first shot of the game in the 22
nd minute which resulted in another save.Â
Unger found her way into the scoring circle, but again the goalie was in the right position for the save. The team earned another penalty corner,
Melo inserted to find
Unger, but the goalie came up big again with the save.
Melo inserted another corner this time finding senior midfielder
Elizabeth Lamm (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) that resulted in another penalty corner. Melo found
Lamm again, this time her shot hits the post. The Falcons had two more shots before halftime, both shots were saved the first by
Unger, the second, by freshman forward
Brice Gardner (Gardners, Pa./Biglerville ). The teams went into halftime scoreless.
In the second half,
Gardner had the first shot of the half which led to a penalty corner. Melo inserted, found
Gardner, but a Giants defender made the save. In the 47
th minute,
Melo inserted a corner that landed with senior midfielder
Hannah Gouck (Kintnersville, PA/Palisades),
Gouck then made a short pass to
Unger in front of the goal to take a 1-0 lead.
Unger tacked on three more shots, only one on frame, the Falcons secured the win with a final score of 1-0.
Next up, the Falcons return home for Senior Day at the FalconPlex with their start time slated for 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 21 as they face Notre Dame of Maryland in a CSAC match.
