Soccer Wins in Shut Out Against College of Saint Elizabeth

MORRISTOWN, N.J. -  The Cedar Crest College soccer team beat the non-conference College of Saint Elizabeth 4-0 on Friday afternoon in their season opener.

"We worked hard and well together today," noted Head Coach Sarah Wolcott. "This is definitely a positive beginning for our season, and I'm excited for our potential moving forward."

In the first two minutes of the match, freshman Kara Brownlie (Southampton, Pa./Abington Friends School) fired her first shot, but missed just wide of the goal. After a foul on the College of Saint Elizabeth Eagles, senior Caitlyn Mann (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) shot, missing high. At the nine minute mark of the first half, freshman Daria Warner (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) scored off an assist by freshman Rebecca Fox (Olean, N.Y./Olean), putting the Falcons on the board 1-0. Freshman Adrianna Tennis (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove ) shot and scored at the 12 minute mark. Freshmen Avery Huston (Levittown, Pa./Bucks County Techinical) and Erika D'Angelo (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial ) both took shots, but were stopped by the Eagles' keeper. Sophomore Kelsey Kehm (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley ) took her first shot of the match at the 26 minute mark, but was ultimately stopped by the goalie. Both D'Angelo and Kehm rallied off two more shots, missing just wide of the goal. Going into half time, the Falcons led the Eagles 2-0.

Mann was the first to score in the second half at the 52 minute mark, lifting the score 3-0. Senior Kari Vanderslice (Clementon, NJ/Highland Regional) and Brownlie both shot, but were saved by the keeper. Off an assist from Vanderslice at the 57 minute mark, Mann shot and scored her second goal of the game. The Falcons led the Eagles 4-0. At the 72 minute mark, sophomore Nyla Ngegba (Newcastle, DE/St. Georges Technical ) shot, missing wide of the goal. At the 89th minute, Mann took the final shot of the match, hitting the post. 

The Falcons will travel to Jamaica, NY to play non-conference York College on September 3. The match is slated to being at 12:00 PM.
