Falcons Fall at Wells

9/10/2017 3:18:00 PM

Box Score AURORA, N.Y.---The Cedar Crest College soccer team fell 2-0 on the road to non-conference Wells College on Sunday afternoon.

"Tough loss today, because Wells showed up ready to play and, simply, out worked us," commented Head Coach Sarah Wolcott. "When we were focused and worked together our play looked good. But we have to put in 90 full minutes as a team. Wells took advantage of momentary lulls and we were just unable to respond."

The Falcons showed a strong attack early on with their first shot just 51 seconds into the game by senior midfielder Katia Olsen (Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens), her shot went wide of the goal. The next shot for the team was by freshman midfielder Erika D'Angelo (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial ), but her shot was saved while senior back/forward Caitlyn Mann (Harrisburg, PA/Central Dauphin) ripped a shot that went wide a minute later. Mann had the next attempt again missing just wide of her target. Wells capitalized late in the half, with the play starting as a corner that after a minute in the box turned into a goal.  Freshman forward Daria Warner (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) looked to even the score on the next play missed wide. Mann had another attempt before the half, this one was saved by the goalkeeper.

Wells opened the second half with a shot, which was followed by a corner that a player got her head around for a 2-0 lead. The Falcons looked to make the best of their own corner kick, junior midfielder Kassandra Miller (Fallington, Pa./Pensbury Senior ) found Mann in the box, but the shot was blocked. Mann on her final shot of the game was blocked, Olsen seemed to have the same issue, as her shot 10 minutes later was also blocked. Senior midfielder Jackalyn Beckett (New Egypt, N.J./New Egypt) took a shot at 80:47 that was saved, and the final shot for the Falcons by Olsen was also saved.

Cedar Crest is home on Tuesday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. on the turf against non-conference New Jersey City University.
