Weller Earns Double-Double as Cedar Crest Drops CSAC Game at Marywood

Box Score ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College women's basketball team suffered loss to CSAC opponent Marywood University Thursday evening by a score of 63-47 with a record of 2-11 on the year and 1-5 in conference play.

The top-scoring Falcon was sophomore guard Sylera Weller (Lancaster, Pa. / J.P. McCaskey), who finished the game with a double-double netting 16 points and 11 rebounds. Weller also added a steal and an assist. Sophomore guard Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa. /Berks Catholic) rounds out the double-figure scorers with 15 points, grabbing six boards, three steals and a blocked shot.
Senior center Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff) and Khnaue Robinson (Newark, N.J./Great Oaks Legacy Charter) each contributed six points in the contest for the Black and Yellow. Gregory grabbed five rebounds, a block and an assist while Robinson contributed two rebounds, an assist and a steal.

Sophomore forward Venus Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic), who was named to the Lehigh Valley Small College Basketball Scholar-Athlete Team earlier in the afternoon, finished the contest with four rebounds, two points and an assist while freshman guard Natasha Barber (Dallas, TX/Ranchview) (Dallas, Tex. / Ranchview) dished out a game-high four assists and four rebounds.

The Falcons played a strong first quarter, taking their biggest lead of the game with 6:06 remaining in the opening period (8-4), and their final lead of the game with 2:51 to play (11-10) after a Weller triple. The Black and Yellow trailed the Griffins at the end of the opening quarter 16-11. The second quarter was the difference in this contest as the Falcons managed to only score 9 points compared to the Pacers 20, and headed to the locker room trailing Marywood 36-20.

Battling hard after the intermission, Cedar Crest put up 16 points in the 3rd quarter with the Pacers edging the Falcons with 17 to increase the lead to 53-36. The Falcons outscored Marywood in the final 10 minutes of the game, netting 11 points and holding the Pacers to 10, before ultimately falling to Marywood, 63-47.

Cedar Crest returns home to Lees Hall on Saturday, January 13 as they will host Cabrini University for their third game of the week, slated to begin at 1:00 pm in Allentown.
