Strong first quarter was not enough in loss to Alvernia

Box Score READING, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Basketball team suffered third straight setback after the 40-67 loss to Alvernia University at McCloskey Court Tuesday evening.
 
The Falcons played well in the first quarter, trailing by one, 16-17 after the first 10 minutes, but the Golden Wolves held Cedar Crest to just four points in the second half. The Black and Yellow went into the locker room at a 15-point deficit, 35-20. The Falcons allowed 24 third quarter points as they scored nine, but outscored Alvernia 11-8 in the final 10 minutes to fall 40-67.
 
Leading the Falcons in scoring was junior Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic), who turned in 10 points, six rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. Following close behind with nine points was graduate student Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff ), who also added six rebounds, five blocks and a steal. Freshmen Amiyah Peters (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) and Joana Cainglet (Collegeville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) each contributed five points, with Cainglet dishing out a team-high four assists and Peters with two rebounds.
 
Freshman Tania Bryant's (Willingboro, N.J./Doane Academy) lone field goal was a three-pointer and brought down four boards while sophomore Jada Garrett (Dallas, TX/Ranchview) made a basket for two points and two rebounds. Junior Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) also made it into the scoring column with a made free throw and contributed three rebounds, two steals and an assist.
 
 The Falcons will be at home for their next two games, the first being on Monday, November 26 when the welcome Penn State Berks to Lees Gymnasium for a 6:00 PM tip-off.
