Falcons Sweep Two Wildcats on Opening Day in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. --- The Cedar Crest College softball team opened the season with quality wins of Penn College and SUNY Poly on Sunday afternoon.

The Falcons took on Penn College in their first game of the season and of the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic with an 11-3 win in 5 innings, then put up another double-digit performance, defeating SUNY Poly 11-6 to put them at 2-0 on the year.

In game one, junior center fielder Brittney Bonser (Kunkletown, Pa./Pleasent Valley) went 3-for-3, driving in three RBIs and scoring a run herself. Sophomore left fielder Courtney Constable (East Bangor, PA/Bangor Area) recorded two hits in her three at-bats, scoring two and also plating two more Falcons in the process.  Six other Falcons recorded hits and five of those six scored a run as the Black and Yellow scored 11 runs.

Game two was no different for Cedar Crest, having multiple players coming up with big at-bats. Bonser finished the game 3-for-5 with two RBIs and scoring a run, while four more Falcons contributed two hits apiece. Junior utility player Aimee Sarboukh (Somerset, N.J./Bound Brook) plated three RBIs and freshman infielder/catcher Riley Tremblay (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) drove in two runs in game two.

In circle was sophomore pitcher Breanna Young (Easton, Pa./Wilson Area), who pitched all five innings of game one, giving up six hits and three earned runs earning four strikeouts in her first game of the season. Graduate student Alexis Baxter (Clifton Springs, NY/Phelps-Clifton Springs) pitched a complete game, allowing six runs, 10 hits, and recorded two strikeouts to earn her first win of the season.

The Falcons are back in action tomorrow, as they will face Randolph College and La Roche College for two morning contests beginning at 9:30 and 11:30 respectively.
