ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest Soccer squad earned fifth win on the season with big second-half effort to blank the St. Joseph's-Brooklyn Bears 5-0 on the FalconPlex Tuesday night.
Â
"We played so well and so hard tonight," commented Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott, "We are clicking and peaking right when we need to."
Â
The Falcons would take 13 shots in the first half but none able to get past the Bears goalkeeper, but that would change drastically in the opening minutes of the second half. Freshman
Michelle Yawger (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) would net the first goal of the game at the 46:34 mark, and just twenty-seconds later, sophomore
Erika D'Angelo (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial ) would score on a break-away after an error made by the Bears off of the first touch. Then, sophomore
Adrianna Tennis (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove ) would get a shot past the goalie, with help from the aforementioned
Yawger to score three Cedar Crest goals in fifty-seconds.
Â
Later on in the half, junior
Kelsey Kehm (Trappe, Pa./Perkiomen Valley ) would take a corner kick and played it short to junior Kim Rosano, who then passed it back to
Kehm for a cross that ended up hitting the far right post and would find its way into the back of the net to extend the Black and Yellow's lead to 4-0. In the 82
nd minute, sophomore
Daria Warner (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) would score her team leading eighth goal of the season after a shot was bounced off of the keeper's gloves and she punched it into the goal to end the scoring for Cedar Crest, putting the final score at 5-0.
Â
Senior goalie
Morgan Maddock (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial High School) made four saves in the game, with three of them coming in the first half.
Maddock improves her record to 5-2, playing all 630:00 minutes this year.
Â
Cedar Crest took a total of 25 shots with 12 of them going on goal, while the Bears took four shots that were all on goal. The Black and Yellow earned seven corners in the match to the one that St. Joseph's-Brooklyn earned.
Â
"Our ball movement was fantastic. Everyone was so composed, and moved the ball and connected passes so well. We just played great soccer," concluded
Wolcott.
Â
Cedar Crest will return to action on Saturday, September 22, when they take on the Cyclones from Centenary University. First whistle is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
