ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest Field Hockey team took down the Gators from Notre Dame of Maryland, 3-0 on the FalconPlex Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons, now 2-4 this season, earned their first win in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) competition. Getting the Black and Yellow on the board early was sophomore Meceredes Melo for her second goal of the season just eight minutes into the game. That would be the only shot to get past a goalkeeper in the opening half.Â
In the second, sophomore
Annalise Unger (Burlington, Ver./Rice Memorial ) would score in the 54th minute off of a rebound in front of the keeper. Just three minutes later,
Unger would receive a pass from freshman
Serena Shuler (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg)Â as she
entered the circle and got a shot off that found the back of the cage. That would end the scoring for the match and the Falcons would come out on top, 3-0.
Cedar Crest would just out-shoot the Gators, 14-13 with nine Falcon shots that went on-goal and six Notre Dame shots that were on goal. The Black and Yellow were in double-digits, earning 13 penalty corner, holding Notre Dame to four.
Junior Goalkeeper
Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, N.H./Hollis Brookline) recorded six saves on all she shots she faced. Reijgers would earn the win in the game, putting her record at 2-2 on the year.
Cedar Crest returns to action on Wednesday, September 26, when they travel to Bryn Athyn for a CSACÂ game set for 7:00 PM.
