ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Field Hockey squad earned their first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) victory of the season over Centenary University on Saturday afternoon.
Cedar Crest honored their six graduating seniors prior to the start of the game: Alexis Domingo,
Makenzie Kistler (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton),
Isabella Savino (Middletown, Del./Middletown),
Alexx Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg Area),
Jennie Fritz (Walnutport, Pa./Northern Lehigh) and
Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, N.H./Hollis Brookline).
The Falcons blasted 26 shots, with 22 shots going on the Cyclones goalkeeper, with Centenary just getting one shot off in the game. The Black and Yellow earned 15 penalty corners, as the Cyclones earned four.
In the first quarter, junior
Brice Gardner (Gardners, Pa./Biglerville ) scored her first goal of the 2019 season, and put the Falcons up 1-0 in the 8th minute. The Black and Yellow would then score three times in the second quarter, with the first coming from junior Alexandria Arabio for her third goal of the season, with an assist being credited to freshman
Kiley Marone (Mohrsville, PA/Tulpehocken High School) in the 19th minute. In the 28th minute, freshman Moran Frantz scored her first-collegiate goal of her career. Then, just over a minute later,
Marone would score her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the 29th minute and would give Cedar Crest a 4-0 leading into the half.
In the second half, senior
Alexx Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg Area) would record a goal off of a corner for her second goal of the year coming off an insert pass from fellow senior,
Makenzie Kistler (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton), in the 40th minute. That would conclude scoring for the remainder of the game, as the Falcons earned a shutout and their first CSAC victory of the year.
Senior goalkeeper,
Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, N.H./Hollis Brookline) only saw one shot come from the Cyclones, but it did not require a save, but
Reijgers still earns the win in the decision, putting her record at 3-7.
Up next, the Falcons will travel to Lancaster Bible College on Wednesday, October 23 for another CSAC game. First-touch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
