ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Field Hockey team had their season come to an end in the Semifinals of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Playoffs on Wednesday evening at the FalconPlex.
The Falcons got on the board first, off of a goal scored by sophomore
Samantha Johnson (Hellertown, Pa./Saucon Valley) in the 7th minute of the game.
Johnson's goal was her fifth of the season as sophomore
Serena Shuler (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) was credited with the assist, her third of the season, giving the Falcons a 1-0 lead. After that goal, Wilson would rattle off three straight goals in the second quarter, putting the Black and Yellow behind 3-1, going into the intermission.
Wilson would add another goal in the 29th minute and the third quarter to increase the deficit to a three-goal difference, with Cedar Crest trailing 4-1 heading into the final 15-minute period. The Falcons would tally their second goal of the game off an initial shot from senior
Alexx Miller (Mechanicsburg, Pa/Mechanicsburg Area) that was deflected in front of the cage by freshman
Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh), which would get by the Phoenix goalkeeper in the 55th minute.
Cieri scored her eighth of the season off of that shot and
Miller earned her third assist of the year. Cedar Crest would score again in the 57th minute to cut the lead to just one goal, this time with
Miller finding the back of the cage off a pass from
Cieri. Unfortunately, the Falcons were not able to find the equalizer, and their season came to an end in the semifinal contest, falling to Wilson 4-3.
Cedar Crest was outshot in total shots (7-9) and shots on goal (6-8) to the Phoenix squad, even though the Falcons earned six more corners than Wilson, leading that category 15-9.
Senior goalkeeper
Cassandra Reijgers (Hollis, N.H./Hollis Brookline) played all 60 minutes in cage, facing nine total shots and made four saves on the eight shots on goal.
Reijgers received the loss in the decision and her record falls to 7-9 to end her senior campaign.
The Falcons conclude the 2019 season with a two-win increase from the year prior, posting an 8-10 overall record and finished 4-3 in CSAC action, which matched the conference wins their earned last season.
