ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College Soccer squad defeated Rosemont College, 1-0 in double-overtime in the Semifinals of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Playoffs on Wednesday evening at the FalconPlex.
Â
"Tonight wasn't our best showing, but we got the job done," commented Head Coach
Sarah Wolcott.
Â
The Falcons improve to 13-4-1 overall, and have broken the school record for wins in a season, topping the 12-win season from last year.
Â
Cedar Crest dominated the statistical charts, blasting 21 shots in the game, with 11 shots going on target, compared to the Ravens four shots and three on goal. The Black and Yellow earned five corner kicks in the contest, with three coming in regulation and two in the second overtime.
Â
We played a scoreless first-half, which had four total shots, three for the Falcons and one for Rosemont. All three of Cedar Crest's shots went on the Ravens' keeper and were saved, which led to a 0-0 tie, heading into halftime. The Black and Yellow came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, attempting 12 shots, with four shots that went on goal. Rosemont managed to take three shots in the second half, all three went on goal, and were the only shots that the Ravens would muster for the remainder of the contest. We would head to overtime still in a scoreless tie.
Â
Cedar Crest would fire off two shots that required saves by the Rosemont net-minder, and the Falcons defense would not allow a single shot in the 10-minute overtime period. After 100 minutes of action, we would need more time to determine a winner. In the second overtime, the Black and Yellow would earn two corner kicks and take four shots with two going on target. Luckily one shot found the back of the net and sent the Falcons into the CSAC Championship game. Junior
Daria Warner (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) would get a loose ball in the box off of a deflection, and she ripped a shot to the bottom left-side of the net to lift the Falcons past Rosemont in the 107th minute. That goal is
Warner's 23 of the season and gave her 51 points on the year.
Â
"Survive and advance is the name of post-season play, and we did that tonight, continued
Coach Wolcott.
Â
Freshman goalkeeper,Â
Lauren Makely (Lake Grove/Sachem North)Â , recorded three saves this evening in the 18th start of her rookie campaign. She recorded all three saves in the second half and improved her record to match the team's at 13-4-1.
Â
Coach Wolcott concluded with, "We're hitting the reset button and setting our sights on a conference championship."
Â
Cedar Crest will host their first-ever CSAC Soccer Championship game in school history this weekend. The Falcons will welcome back Cairn University to the FalconPlex on Saturday, November 9 at a time to be determined. Stayed tuned to cedarcrestathletics.com for more information.
