Match Recap: Tennis |

Tennis wins first CSAC match of the year, hands Notre Dame 8-1 loss

BALTIMORE, Md. --- The Cedar Crest College Tennis program defeated Notre Dame of Maryland University, 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at Notre Dame Tennis Courts. The Falcons move to (3-4) overall and earn their first win in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Cedar Crest was up 2-0 over the Gators by the start if the match as the Falcons won third doubles and sixth singles by default. First doubles squad, Chelsea Tito (Wilmington, Del./Alexis I. DuPont) and Andrea Abdale (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast ), would grab a 8-3 win followed by a back-and-forth affair at second doubles, Delaney Robbins (East Stroudsburg, Pa./East Stroudsburg South) and Telena Jones (Scranton, Pa./Scranton), that had the Black and Yellow come out on top, 9-7. Cedar Crest would possess a 4-0 lead heading into singles-play and just one point to solidify the win.

Katherine Naples (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire North) would earn a (6-2, 6-1) victory over the Gator at fourth-singles to put the Falcons up 5-0. At third singles, Maya Narasimhan (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) would take both sets, (6-1, 6-0), followed by a solid performance by Yomari Salvador-Rivera (Reading, Pa./Reading Senior) at second doubles. Salvador-Rivera claimed both sets (6-2, 6-1) to put the Falcons up 7-0, and Robins would defeat her Notre Dame opponent in one set, (8-0). The only loss for the Falcons came at first singles, which saw Alyssa Epsaro (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) take the first set (6-2), then drop the second set (1-6) to force a third set. The tie-breaker ended with the Gators coming out on top in the match, (7-10) and putting the final score at 8-1 in favor of Cedar Crest.

Up next, the Falcons will host Cairn University in another CSAC contest on Saturday, April 6. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM on the Falcon Tennis Courts.
