ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College Basketball team (7-18, 6-12 CSAC) ended the 2019-2020 season on a high note, defeating Clarks Summit University (18-7, 13-5 CSAC) in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) competition on Senior Day.
Prior to the start of the contest, the Falcons honored their three graduating seniors,
Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic),
Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic), and
Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff).
A closely contested matchup, saw the Black and Yellow trailing by a small margin of five points, 16-21 after the first quarter. The Falcons came out firing in the second quarter, outscoring the Defenders 23-9, including three-consecutive 3-pointers from freshman
Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk), to cut the deficit entirely and gave Cedar Crest a four-point lead at the 5:53 mark.
Wilson would then drain a three-pointer from beyond half court as time expired in the second quarter, giving the Falcons a nine-point lead, 39-30, heading into halftime.
A low-scoring third quarter brought Clarks Summit closer to regaining the lead, as the Defenders held the Falcons to single digits, 6-11, cutting the lead to just four-points after three quarters of play, 45-41. The Black and Yellow would post 21 points in the final 10 minutes of the game to close out their final game of the season and upend the Defenders for a 66-56 victory.
Two Falcons finished in double-figures, both
Ashley Wilson (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) and
Geminii Cabrera (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) recorded 20+ points in the win over Clarks Summit.
Wilson scored 22 of her 27 points in the first half, making six three-points and going 5-for-6 at the foul line, to go with six rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot to round out her freshman campaign.
G. Cabrera concluded her career as a Falcon with a 20-point performance, going 6-for-11 (46%) from the field and 8-for-11 (73%) from the free throw line, while adding eight rebounds, two assists and a steal.
Junior
Mackenzie Borger (Kresgeville, Pa./Pleasant Valley) finished one-point shy of eclipsing double-figures, ending with nine points, five boards and a steal, as graduate student
Meghan Gregory (Buckhorn, NM/Cliff) made three layups for six points and grabbed a rebound and was credited with an assist in her final game with the Black and Yellow. Senior
Venus Cabrera (Reading,Pa./Berks Catholic) tallied a basket for two points, grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, three assists and blocked a shot in her final game as a Falcon. Freshman
Kelly Reid (Bridgewater, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) also hit a shot for two points in the victory, to go with six rebounds and an assist.
The Falcons conclude their season with a 7-18 record and a 6-12 mark in CSAC action.
