CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College field hockey team was edged by Wilson College, 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
The teams traded first quarter scores to open the contest. Fifth-year Michaela Singer (Annville, Pa.) put the Phoenix on the board in the 13
th minute while junior
Amber Cieri (Slatington, Pa./Northern Lehigh) answered back when she put a shot past fifth-year Krista Nayadley (Hampton, Va.) to knot the contest at one. Cieri's shot went off Nayadley's glove and in the back of the net.
Wilson registered the eventual game-winner in the third quarter when Singer came in from the left side and beat Falcons' freshman goalkeeper
Brynn Rifino (Dover, Del./Smyrna) right side for the goal. Senior Breeann Sheaffer (Middleburg, Pa.) was credited with the helper.
Nayadley made two saves in the victory while Rifino converted seven stops in the setup.
The Phoenix outshot Cedar Crest 15-7 on the afternoon while the squads were even in corners with 11 each.
Cedar Crest (3-7 overall, 1-2 CSAC) will return home to face Bryn Athyn College on Wednesday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. Wilson (11-0 overall, 3-0 CSAC) will travel to Notre Dame (Md.) for a conference contest on Saturday, October 9 at noon.
