ABINGTON, Pa. --- The Cedar Crest College tennis team earned a, 8-1, road-win over Clarks Summit University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action at the Birchwood Tennis Club.
The Falcons improve to (2-0) overall and (2-0) in CSAC play, as the Defender fall to (0-3) overall and (0-2) in conference action.
Clarks Summit forfeited both third doubles and sixth singles, to give Cedar Crest a 2-0 lead prior to the start of the match.
Starting with doubles, Cedar Crest had freshmen Lily Spagnola (Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat) and Katherine Franzone () claimed their point at first doubles, (8-1). At second doubles, senior Katherine Naples (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire North) and freshman Sam Henson (Waterbury, Conn./W.F. Keynor Technical) won (8-1), taking a 4-0 lead heading into singles play.
With sixth singles winning by default, the first Falcon to finish was senior Ashley Wilkins (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding), defeating the Defender at fourth singles, (6-0, 6-1). Freshman Isabel Sandone (Westmont, N.J./Haddon Township) claimed both sets (6-2, 6-0) for her first collegiate win wearing Black and Yellow. With the Falcons leading 6-0, freshman Spagnola won her match at second singles, (6-3, 6-2), then Naples, who just received the CSAC Player of the Week, posted a clean sheet at fifth singles, (6-0, 6-0). The last duo to finish was at first singles, where Franzone fell (1-6, 2-6) to her counterpart, which concluded the match and put the final score at 8-1.
The Falcons will be back in action on Saturday, April 24 when host Cairn University for their lone home match of the season. This CSAC contest is scheduled to begin at 12:00 PM on Falcon Tennis Courts.
