ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College soccer team defeated Saint Elizabeth University, 8-0, in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match on Saturday afternoon at the FalconPlex on Senior Day. The Falcons honored its five seniors in a special pregame ceremony.
"Before the season, we talked about what our goals were," said Head Soccer Coach Jesse Zafiratos. "Finishing as the top seed and hosting the conference tournament was our top priority, and to see it come to fruition really shows what happens when you work hard as a group, and most importantly play for each other."
Cedar Crest netted four goals in each half en route to the victory.
Senior Morgan Love started the scoring early with a goal in the third minute off an assist from graduate student Ashley Whittaker.
Whittaker was back in the action in the 20
th minute, finding the back of the net for her seventh goal of the season. Seniors Taylor Wolf and Madison VanKirk each put shots home in the first half to send the Falcons into the half with a 4-0 lead.
The Falcons found another goal from Whittaker in the 57
th minute, followed by back-to-back markers from Wolf to cap the hat trick, and sophomore Abril Riley scored in the 88
th minute to close the scoring in the 8-0 final.
Cedar Crest had a large advantage in shots, 44-2, and had 14 corner kicks in the match.
Senior Lauren Makely registered one save in the victory while first-year Salma Ibrahim (New Brunswick, N.J.) converted 14 saves in the loss.
Cedar Crest (11-3-2 overall, 8-0-1 CSAC) earned the No. 1 seed for the upcoming CSAC Championship Tournament and receives a bye into the semifinal round, which is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, November 2.
