Soccer Knocks Off Defending CSAC Champions Bryn Athyn, 3-2

BRYN ATHYN, Pa. – The Cedar Crest College soccer team edged Bryn Athyn College in a 3-2 final on Saturday afternoon at General Ronald K. Nelson Field in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match.

"It was an incredible effort by our group today against a very good Bryn Athyn team," said Head Soccer Coach Jesse Zafiratos. "It's never easy to win on the road at this level, and for us to find a way just shows how much it means to us a group."

The Falcons netted a pair of goals in the opening half. Sophomore Abril Riley (Levittown, Pa./Harry S. Truman) found the back of the net in the 31st minute off an assist from graduate student Ashley Whittaker (Huntersville, N.C. /Hopewell ). Cedar Crest padded its lead in the 40th minute when senior Taylor Wolf (Townsend, Del./Middletown) netted a penalty shot to go up 2-0.

The Lions got on the scoreboard in the 48th minute on a marker from graduate student Ashley Rivera (Southampton, Pa.) while the assist was credited to sophomore Maria Storck (Philadelphia, Pa.) to make it 3-1. Riley answered back for Cedar Crest with her second goal of the game, which came in the 53rd minute.

Rivera would add another marker in the 89th minute to send it to the 3-2 final.

Senior Lauren Makely (Lake Grove, N.Y./Sachem North) was credited with the win in goal for the Falcons, making four saves. First-year Chloe Munyon (Bensalem, Pa.) converted nine saves for the Lions.
Cedar Crest had a 22-15 advantage in shots and had seven corner kicks to three for the Lions.
